A couple of days ago, at a bilingual company meeting, the chairman remarked: “Colleagues, during the presentations in German I tuned into the English translation, and I am afraid I have to tell you that the English version made more sense than the German original!”
Me and my colleague were very pleased, because that is what our profession is all about: enabling communication and convey the MESSAGE in another language. Our work is not about repeating word by word what the speaker says. Instead, we analyze what is being said and then we render the message in the target language in a meaningful way.
