The start of this year’s interpreting season found this interpreter in a production hall. After a plenary session including the customary PowerPoint presentations our group walked around the production plant. During my half hour of recreation I noticed this interesting laminated information board.
Being the devoted interpreter I am, I was immediately intrigued by the “trail operation” warned against…
Let’s see…of course this is about a “trial operation”; test run would have been another option.
Im my dictionary there are a lot of hits for “trail”, but none of these has anything to do with trials or tests:
Trail as in paper trail, nature trail or fitness trail, trail as in trail mix or trailing behind something… this would lead us to trailer parks and the like; and of course I should mention the trailblazer.
The English language is very rich and complex!
